Manhunt continues after Maine shooting rampage
Here’s what we currently know:
Officials are urging residents to remain in shelter on Friday as an extensive manhunt continues for a suspect in the shooting rampage that occurred in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday. This tragic event resulted in at least 18 fatalities and 13 injuries, as reported by authorities.
Robert Card, aged 40, is the subject of an arrest warrant on eight counts of murder and is considered armed and dangerous, according to law enforcement. Notably, Card is a certified firearms instructor and a member of the US Army Reserves, which experts have noted could complicate the efforts to locate him.
In the course of their investigation, authorities recovered a cell phone belonging to the Maine shooting suspect, along with a note left behind. They continue to probe for a motive and are concentrating their resources near the location where the suspect’s car was discovered.
This Maine rampage stands as the deadliest mass shooting in the United States this year, surpassing even the Uvalde school massacre. It’s a stark reminder of the prevalence of mass shootings, with at least 566 incidents recorded across the country this year, as per the Gun Violence Archive.
