"Join us: Big Brothers Big Sisters LI needs volunteers as waiting list grows."
Big Brothers Big Sisters Long Island urgently seeks additional volunteers, especially given the pandemic's challenges. Presently, there are 66 boys awaiting mentors, and another 114 boys are soon to join the waiting list. Your involvement can have a lasting impact on these young lives.
"I believe that having a big brother would help me mature and become a better person in life," expresses 13-year-old Francisco Roldan from Hempstead.
The organization emphasizes a particular need for male volunteers.
BBSLI's Chief Program Officer, Fabiola Turner, highlights the challenges faced by children in the area, including social isolation and emotional struggles. This underscores the heightened significance of mentoring.
The organization is appealing to those who've signed up as Big Brothers, asking for a commitment of only four hours per month for a year to spend with their "little."
Existing volunteers affirm that dedicating a small amount of time yields a substantial impact on a child's life.
In December 2021, Matt Hettler from Smithtown extended his mentorship to 11-year-old Quinton Grant.
"Life might offer material possessions, but this is the heart of what truly matters," Hettler emphasizes. "It's the essence of it all – that heartwarming connection."
Children awaiting mentors express their wish for a meaningful bond with a Big Brother in the near future.
