Local nonprofit seeks $25,000 truck sponsor as aging delivery vehicle threatens pet food deliveries, emergency assistance and animal rescues

MIDDLE ISLAND, N.Y. — Nobody Starves on Long Island is making an urgent appeal to Long Island’s business community for help securing a dependable replacement truck — a vehicle the nonprofit says is essential to keeping food and supplies moving to families and animals in need.

The organization is seeking one major sponsor to help provide a $25,000 down payment on a reliable used truck.

For Nobody Starves on Long Island, the truck isn’t simply transportation. It is a critical part of the organization’s day-to-day operation.

According to the organization, the vehicle is used to deliver thousands of pounds of pet food, human food, clothing and emergency supplies, as well as transport animals in need of assistance.

But the current truck is wearing out.

Repairs have reportedly become increasingly frequent and expensive, leaving the nonprofit concerned that continuing to invest money in the aging vehicle is no longer sustainable.

“Without a dependable truck, everything stops,” the organization said in its appeal.

For the families who depend on the nonprofit, a vehicle failure could have consequences far beyond a missed delivery.

It could mean fewer pet-food deliveries, fewer emergency rescues and fewer supplies reaching struggling Long Island families. The organization also fears that without its assistance, some families could eventually face the heartbreaking decision of surrendering pets they can no longer afford to feed.

Searching for One Business Willing to Step Up

Nobody Starves on Long Island is specifically appealing to business owners, veterinary offices, animal hospitals, pet stores, automobile dealerships and corporate sponsors.

The organization says a business willing to assist with the $25,000 down payment would become its Exclusive Truck Sponsor.

In return, the sponsor’s business name and logo would be prominently displayed on the truck at no cost, according to the organization.

Nobody Starves on Long Island says the vehicle travels more than 3,000 miles each month, frequently traveling between Long Island and New York City.

That would give a participating business ongoing visibility while simultaneously helping keep a nonprofit’s services operating.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, charitable contributions may also be tax-deductible subject to applicable tax laws and individual circumstances. Potential sponsors should consult their tax professional regarding deductibility.

The Search Hasn’t Been Easy

The organization says it has already followed suggestions from supporters and reached out to automobile dealerships, rental-truck companies, used-car businesses and others seeking assistance.

So far, those efforts have not produced the sponsor it desperately needs.

Many businesses did not respond at all, according to the organization.

Despite the disappointment, Nobody Starves on Long Island says it isn’t giving up.

Instead, it is asking Long Islanders to help spread the word — particularly anyone who knows a business owner or company that might be willing to become the sponsor.

Sometimes, one phone call or introduction can make the difference.

More Than a Truck

Behind the fundraising goal are the animals and families who depend on the organization.

Nobody Starves on Long Island provides assistance designed to help people experiencing financial hardship continue caring for their pets rather than surrendering them because they cannot afford food or other necessities.

That is why the organization views the campaign as much more than an effort to purchase another vehicle.

“This isn’t just sponsoring a truck,” the organization said. “You’re sponsoring every family that depends on us. Every dog that gets another meal. Every cat that stays in its home instead of entering a shelter. Every life we can continue to help because our wheels keep turning.”

For a family facing financial hardship, a bag of pet food can make the difference between keeping a beloved animal at home and considering surrender.

For an animal needing emergency assistance, a functioning vehicle can mean transportation to safety.

And for Nobody Starves on Long Island, keeping that vehicle on the road means keeping its mission moving.
