Toddler in Critical Condition After Being Found Unresponsive in Mastic Beach Pool
Mastic Beach, N.Y. — June 27, 2026
A young child is in critical condition after being discovered unresponsive in a backyard swimming pool at a Mastic Beach home late Friday morning, according to Suffolk County Police.
Investigators say the 2‑year‑old boy was found in the water around 11:17 a.m. at a residence on Mayfield Drive. A family member pulled him from the pool and immediately began CPR while calling 911.
Officers from the Seventh Precinct arrived within minutes and continued lifesaving efforts until members of the Mastic Beach Volunteer Ambulance Company took over. The child was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Detectives are reviewing the circumstances surrounding the incident, though authorities have not suggested any signs of foul play. The investigation is ongoing.
With summer temperatures rising and families opening their pools for the season, local officials are once again urging residents to take extra precautions — including constant supervision, secure fencing, and quick access to CPR — to prevent similar tragedies.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Suffolk County Police Seventh Squad.
