The guard allegedly accused the woman of shoplifting and coerced her into engaging in a sexual act prior to allowing her to leave the mall, according to police reports.
On Thursday in Lake Grove, NY, police took a Smith Haven Mall security guard into custody after they stated he had made a suspected shoplifter engage in a sexual activity while on duty in the past year.
On August 29, Jose Irizarry (33, from Holbrook) was on duty as a security officer when he grew suspicious of a 24-year-old woman who he thought may have committed shoplifting. Allegedly, Irizarry, appearing as if he was going to take her out of the mall, brought her into a corridor that was only supposed to be used by employees and then led her into a storage room. There, he is accused of coercing her to engage in a sexual act in exchange for being allowed to leave the premises.
On Thursday, Irizarry was taken into custody at the Fourth Precinct by police and was accused of committing a first-degree criminal sex act.
He was detained in the Third Precinct for the night and is due in Central Islip's First District Court to face the judge on Friday.
