Nearly two years after a woman was found dead at a Long Island home, her killer has confessed and admitted to strangling a second woman

On March 29, the Suffolk County District Attorney reported that 23-year-old Bay Shore resident, Darren Mansfield, had admitted guilt in the charges of strangulation and first-degree manslaughter. Mansfield is anticipated to face a sentence of 30 years in prison for these two offenses.

Frania Espinal, who was dating Mansfield at the time, was discovered deceased inside Mansfield's apartment in Dix Hill on April 14, 2021. The medical examiner determined that the cause of her death was strangulation, and she had also sustained multiple injuries. The authorities are treating her case as a homicide.

When Espinal died, Mansfield had been released on bail because of another incident where he had choked another woman in November 2020. Reports indicate that Mansfield went out on a date with the unnamed woman at Bay Shore Marina and choked her by putting her in a headlock. Thankfully, she survived the ordeal.

Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney stated in a release that the violent nature of these actions warrants only one fitting consequence: a 30-year imprisonment. This marks the end of the line.

The official sentencing of Mansfield is scheduled for Wednesday, May 10.
