Fatal Collision Claims Lives of Driver and Passenger on Southern State Parkway in Babylon
On Sunday, January 28, at approximately 5:40 a.m., a tragic incident unfolded on the westbound side of the Southern State Parkway in the town of Babylon near exit 35. The New York State Police are currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash.
According to preliminary findings by the State Police, a 2015 Infiniti Q50 was traveling in the center lane as it approached the exit. Regrettably, it collided with the rear of a 2015 Jeep Compass. The force of the impact caused the Infiniti to veer off the roadway onto the right shoulder, where it struck a tree. This resulted in the immediate loss of both the driver and sole passenger inside the Infiniti, as reported by state police. The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending notification to their families.
Simultaneously, the collision caused the Jeep to spin and collide with the center concrete barrier, ultimately coming to a stop in the left lane. Emergency services responded promptly, transporting the Jeep's driver to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) and Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) swiftly arrived at the scene to initiate a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash. At present, the authorities have not disclosed further details about the incident.
The State Police are urging any witnesses or individuals with information related to the crash to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. Concerned parties can contact the State Police at 631-756-3300.
