America's VetDogs in Smithtown cuts wait time for service dogs from 3 years to 12 months or less
In Smithtown, America's VetDogs is observing two decades of teaching and locating treatment canines for injured veterans.
John Miller, the president of America's VetDogs, mentioned that the organization has successfully linked 1,000 puppies with war veterans nationwide, aiding them in regaining their lives following severe injuries or post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) resulting from armed conflicts.
Their 20th anniversary was commemorated with the revelation of 20 refurbished rooms utilized by veterans for accommodation during the training of their service animals. Additionally, the organization declared a reduction in the service dog waitlist from three years to a year or less, benefiting individuals such as Howard Stillwagon.
Having been hurt both physically and emotionally during the Vietnam War, the veteran from Glen Cove had kept the traumatic memories of combat locked away inside him for fifty years. However, receiving a service dog, Cruiser, from America's VetDogs in October 2020 has been a significant help in his ongoing battle with PTSD.
According to Stillwagon, Cruiser is her constant companion and source of emotional connection as he serves her needs. She attests to his reliable and dependable service in taking care of her.
