Man Beat Girlfriend For 30 Minutes Before She Died Outside Shirley Skating Rink, DA Says
According to prosecutors, a homeless woman aged 34 was subjected to a savage beating by her boyfriend for almost 30 minutes, ultimately resulting in her death outside a Long Island skating rink.
On May 24, at the Suffolk County Court, 32-year-old Oscar Morocho-Morocho from Shirley was charged with manslaughter in the death of Ruth Para-Martinez.
The Suffolk County DA's office stated that Morocho-Morocho physically assaulted Para-Martinez in a public and aggressive manner outside The Green's Gr8skates skating rink in Shirley on the evening of May 7th, due to being upset with her.
Prosecutors claim that the attack lasted for around 25 minutes, during which the perpetrator punched, kicked and dragged the woman. This was all captured on surveillance footage from a nearby business.
Afterwards, he dialed 911 to notify them of her death and absconded from the location. The police discovered Para-Martinez' remains at 6 a.m. the next day. Morocho-Morocho was apprehended outside of a carwash in Jamaica, Queens, after four days.
In a statement, Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney expressed that the victim did not deserve to suffer a violent death and that the alleged brutality exhibited by the defendant was unacceptable.
Our aim is to vigorously prosecute the defendant for this brutal offence to provide justice to Ms. Para-Martinez and her family.
On Wednesday, Morocho-Morocho faced an arraignment in court for two felony charges, which include first-degree manslaughter and second-degree manslaughter.
He was instructed to be detained at the Suffolk County jail with a bond of $1 million. His next court appearance is set for Monday, June 26.
