New York,NY
Swatting threats of an active shooter were reported by over 50 school districts throughout New York.
According to authorities, the incidents that were reported on Tuesday, April 4 occurred in districts situated in Long Island, Central New York, the Southern Tier, and the North Country.
In a statement made on Tuesday, Governor Kathy Hochul assured parents that their children are secure in schools and that the swatting threats are fictitious and designed to instigate fear and anxiety among students, teachers, and families.
State police reported that on Thursday, March 30, various school districts received hoax calls about an active shooter. All of the reports were subsequently confirmed to be unfounded.
Numerous educational institutions situated in the Hudson Valley were subjected to swatting incidents and consequently had to implement lockdown protocols. This included certain secondary schools situated in Westchester and Putnam counties.
Hochul stated on Tuesday that she has instructed state police to scrutinize the threats and collaborate closely with various law enforcement agencies in identifying the culprits, punishing them, and reinstating the tranquility and safety that our children merit.
Hochul stated that ever since the initial series of swatting events took place last week, the State Police has been collaborating closely with the State Education Department, county management, and local school boards to extend aid and requisite resources to deal with the occurrences. The safety of New Yorkers remains her foremost concern at all times.
