LONG ISLAND, NY — A man has died following a freak accident on Long Island in which he was pulled into an MRI machine, suffering critical injuries.
The incident occurred earlier this week at a private imaging facility, where the unidentified man was reportedly accompanying a patient into the room. According to sources familiar with the investigation, the man entered the MRI suite with a metal oxygen tank — a fatal error in the presence of the powerful magnetic field generated by the machine.
Authorities say the magnetic force pulled the tank into the MRI scanner with tremendous force, striking the man and causing catastrophic injuries. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, and the victim was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries shortly after.
The tragedy has sparked renewed concerns over MRI safety protocols and the importance of strict adherence to no-metal policies in imaging suites.
The name of the victim has not yet been released pending notification of family members. An investigation is ongoing.
