Suffolk County's Audit Division Passes 2022-2024 Peer Review with Flying Colors

Hauppauge, NY – The Audit Division of the Suffolk County Comptroller's Office has received the highest rating of "pass" on its internal quality control system from the Association of Local Government Auditors (ALGA). ALGA conducted an on-site review of the Audit Division's operations and procedures in June 2025, confirming Suffolk County's compliance with Government Auditing Standards (GAS).

In a letter to Comptroller Kennedy, ALGA highlighted several areas of excellence within the office:

* Highly Skilled Staff: The Division's robust Continuing Professional Education (CPE) program is closely monitored to ensure compliance with Yellow Book, license, and certification requirements, leading to a highly skilled, well-trained, and knowledgeable staff.

* Electronic Workpapers: The electronic workpapers were noted for being very organized and well-laid out, which facilitated easy review and identification of key areas.

* Audit Reports: Audit Reports were well-organized, easy to read, and effectively highlighted important points, allowing readers to easily identify recommendations for improving processes and achieving compliance with laws and regulations.

ALGA also expressed impressive regarding the Audit Division's internal quality control system and overall audit operations, especially considering the office's size. Comptroller Kennedy expressed his appreciation for the professional and effective review, stating, "We found this peer review to be a valuable and constructive process and sincerely thank the team for the thoughtful insights that they shared from their experiences".
