🐾❤️ A HUGE SHOUTOUT TO LONG ISLAND’S RESCUES & RESCUERS! ❤️🐾
Today, Long Island Daily News wants to recognize the incredible animal rescues, independent rescuers, fosters, volunteers, transporters, trappers, advocates and adopters working throughout Long Island.
So much of what you do happens quietly and behind the scenes.
You answer calls at all hours.
You crawl under decks and into difficult places to save frightened animals.
You trap cats in freezing cold and summer heat.
You take in abandoned, neglected, injured and terrified animals when there seems to be nowhere else for them to go.
You bottle-feed babies through the night.
You drive animals to veterinary appointments.
You spend your own money.
You open your homes to fosters.
You sit beside scared animals until they finally understand that they’re safe.
You share urgent posts over and over, hoping the right person will see them.
And sometimes, despite doing everything possible, you experience heartbreak that most people will never see.
We see you. ❤️
We see the foster who said, “Just one more.”
We see the volunteer cleaning cages when nobody is watching.
We see the person feeding community cats every single day.
We see the transporter driving hours to give an animal another chance.
We see the rescuer answering messages late at night.
We see the people advocating for shelter animals whose time is running out.
And we see every person who has ever opened their home and heart to an animal who desperately needed one.
Rescue isn’t easy.
But because of you, animals who were once unwanted are sleeping on couches tonight.
Animals who were hungry have full bowls.
Animals who were frightened have learned what love feels like.
And animals who might never have gotten another chance now have families calling them their own.
🐶🐱 THAT MATTERS.
To every rescue and rescuer across Nassau and Suffolk counties:
THANK YOU.
Thank you for showing up.
Thank you for caring when it would be easier to look away.
Thank you for giving your time, your homes, your money and your hearts.
Most importantly, thank you for giving animals something they desperately deserve:
A SECOND CHANCE. ❤️🐾
