78-year-old Women Killed While Riding Electric Scooter in Nesconset

Suffolk County Fourth Squad Detectives are investigating a fatal motor vehicle accident in Nesconset Monday night, after a 78-year-old women was killed while driving an electric scooter. 

Jie Cao was traveling Northbound on an electric powered seated scooter on Lake Avenue South, against the red light at the intersection of Smithtown Boulevard, when she was struck by a 2008 Toyota Siena, driven by a 68-year-old male driver from East Northport. 

Cao was transported to the hospital where she was pronounced dead. The driver of the Toyota, was not injured. The Toyota was impounded for a safety check.
