Suffolk County Police recently arrested a man in Bay Shore on July 24, 2025, for allegedly murdering a man in Bay Shore, and allegedly shooting a Suffolk County Police Officer.
Third Precinct officers responded to a 911 call regarding a man found dead in a wooded lot across from 19 New York Avenue in Bay Shore on July 23 at 4:35 p.m. It was determined the man, Eugene Allen, 66 of Brentwood, was a victim of violence.
Following an investigation, Homicide Squad Detectives determined that the alleged suspect was Nieves F. Reyes. Police attempted to execute a search warrant at his residence at 25 New York Avenue in Bay Shore. Reyes fired shots, and struck a Third Precinct officer in the face at 2:25 a.m.
The officer, 33, was transported to South Shore University Hospital in Bay Shore, and then later transferred to Stony Brook University Hospital where he was treated and released.
The Hostage Negotiation Team responded, and Reyes 48, surrounded at approximately 6:10 a.m. Detectives charged him with Murder 2nd Degree, and Attempted Murder 1st Degree on a Police Officer.
He is currently being held at the Sixth Precinct in Selden and had a court appearance at First District Court in Central Islip on July 25.
