Rite Aid announces the closure of 31 additional stores, including one on Long Island, following the recent bankruptcy filing.

The Long Island store at 335 Route 25A in Miller Place is among those listed for closure, as disclosed in the bankruptcy court filing on November 28th.

The Miller Place store is set to close on December 11, according to information provided by a store employee on Monday.

According to A&G Real Estate Partners, Rite Aid is leasing the 10,859 square foot store in the strip center. A&G Real Estate Partners, a Melville-based firm, is marketing 105 store locations leased by Rite Aid and 21 owned by the retailer.

As per the retailer's website, there are presently 1,884 Rite Aid locations, including 28 on Long Island.

With its headquarters in Philadelphia, Rite Aid has previously disclosed two additional rounds of closures, totaling 171 stores.

In its Chapter 11 filing in October, Rite Aid requested bankruptcy court approval to close 154 locations, including 12 on Long Island.

However, three of the Long Island stores on the list, namely Bellmore, Huntington Station, and Valley Stream, had already been closed.

Approval for the closings was granted by the court on November 20.

In November, Rite Aid expanded its closing list by adding 17 more stores.

Established in 1962, Rite Aid has faced annual losses for several years. In an effort to reduce costs, the company implemented various measures, including the closure of approximately 210 stores in the 12-month period ending on September 30.

Recent years have seen the company paying out millions of dollars in settlements and lawsuits related to opioid prescriptions.

In its filing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in New Jersey, Rite Aid listed $8.6 billion in debt and $7.6 billion in assets.
