According to authorities, a student on campus at a Long Island school was stabbed by another student and has been hospitalized.

On March 27, Monday, at 12:30 p.m., emergency teams in Lindenhurst were summoned to Lindenhurst Middle School, situated on North Wellwood Avenue, due to a stabbing incident that occurred in the second-floor hallway.

In the hallway, Javier Portillo, a seventh-grade student at the age of 12 witnessed two teenagers engaged in a fight.

As per Suffolk County Police, a 13-year-old boy was stabbed in the upper leg close to his groin area with a 6-inch knife by a 12-year-old boy. The bleeding was controlled by a school staff who used a tourniquet, and the police applied a second tourniquet after reaching the scene.

Police stated that the young student was transported by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital and underwent surgery. According to their statements at a press conference on Monday afternoon, the adolescent was in stable but critical condition.

According to Sean Beran, a deputy inspector with the Suffolk County Police Department, there was a significant loss of blood.

The school apprehended the student suspected of carrying out the attack for a charge of juvenile delinquency.

The police reported that there were no other casualties in the stabbing incident that occurred due to a conflict between the teenagers. The officials refrained from making assumptions regarding the root cause of their argument.

Beran expressed his utter dismay about the attack, describing it as terrible and acknowledging that the person responsible was someone's child.

District Superintendent Anthony Davidson stated in a message to parents on Monday that due to the ongoing police investigation, there are limited details that he can disclose regarding the recent incident. Although there may be inquiries from the community, he urges everyone to be patient and understand as they collaborate with law enforcement.

The campus was put on lockdown following the incident, but the lockdown has now been lifted.
