CUTCHOGUE, NY — A routine traffic stop on North Fork roads took a serious turn this week when a 27‑year‑old Cutchogue man was found with a loaded semi‑automatic handgun inside his vehicle, Southold Town police reported.

Stop Leads to Unexpected Discovery
On Monday around 2:50 p.m., officers stopped Joseph G. Worysz, 27, for a vehicle-and-traffic infraction on Bridge Lane in Cutchogue. During the stop, police discovered an open alcoholic beverage in the center console. A further search revealed a cooler on the passenger seat containing a loaded .40‑caliber semi‑automatic handgun .

Charged with Multiple Offenses
Worysz was arrested and charged with the following:
- Second-degree criminal possession of a weapon (felony)
- Failure to maintain lane (traffic violation)
- Driving with an open alcoholic beverage
He was held for arraignment following processing at the precinct.
