Latest Weather Update - Anticipate Destructive Wind Conditions: Gusts Reaching 70 MPH May Result in Power Disruptions.

The primary concern with an approaching powerful storm is the potential for damaging winds, which may lead to power outages.

The expansive system is set to arrive on Sunday, Dec. 10, and extend through Monday, Dec. 11, as per the National Weather Service.

Anticipate widespread wind gusts ranging from 40 to 50 miles per hour on Sunday into Monday, Dec. 11. Stronger gusts, reaching up to 60 miles per hour farther east and up to 70 mph along the New England coast, are also expected.

AccuWeather reports that at their peak, winds could gust up to 50 mph in Boston and New York City, with even higher gusts ranging from 60-70 mph possible on Long Island and along the southern coast of Massachusetts, including Cape Cod, Nantucket, and Martha's Vineyard.

A Flood Watch has been issued for coastal areas, effective from Sunday afternoon through late Sunday night.

The National Weather Service warns that excessive runoff could lead to flooding in rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying areas. Poor drainage and urban areas are particularly susceptible to flooding.

The day before the storm arrives, Saturday, Dec. 9, the mercury will climb to a high temperature in the mid-50s with partly sunny skies

Sunday is forecasted to be mostly cloudy and breezy throughout the day, with the chance of rainfall beginning in the early afternoon.

According to current projections for the storm system, the most substantial rainfall and strongest wind gusts are expected Sunday evening, continuing overnight into Monday. The system is anticipated to move out by Monday afternoon.

AccuWeather.com notes that travelers, both on the roads and in the air, may encounter delays, even in areas where rain or snow is not falling.
