On Friday, June 2, a man from Suffolk County was given a 50-year prison sentence in Suffolk County Court. The DA's office has chosen not to reveal the man's name in order to safeguard the identity of the victim.
In April 2023, he was convicted by a jury for several offenses, including the first-degree rape.
As per the prosecution, the accused initiated sexual abuse towards the victim at the age of 10 and persisted until she reached 11 years old.
According to prosecutors, during secret recordings of their conversations, the victim captured statements made by the defendant that were self-accusatory.
When the young female made an accusation and came forward, the recordings were handed over to the Suffolk County Police and subsequently presented in court as evidence during his trial.
"Suffolk County DA Raymond Tierney emphasized that although the victim's efforts to bring her abuser to justice were admirable, it is unacceptable for any child to experience sexual abuse."
The defendant will be imprisoned for many years, isolated from the Suffolk County community and the victim.
The following counts resulted in the man being found guilty on April 5, 2023:
- First-degree rape (violent felony)
- First-degree criminal sexual act (violent felony)
- Endangering the welfare of a child (misdemeanor)
Beside his imprisonment, he is also required to finish 20 years of supervision after his release.
