Suffolk County's Great Long Island Laugh-Off kicked off with a bang in Bohemia last night. Advancing to the second round of the contest were Mike Tanzi, Jason Pallini, Ryan Rizzuti, Maria Zollo, Teddy Reynolds, and Joe Grippo. The first round has two more Suffolk County shows on the 18th and 25th at McGuire's Comedy Club. Run by the venerable Governor's Comedy Club, the contest is Long Island's longes running comedy contest.
From the Governor's Comedy Club website:
The longest running, and most prestigious comedy contest on Long Island returns for another great year of intense competition to see who is Long island’s funniest new talent! It's always a great night of fun and laughs featuring the thrill of victry and the agony of defeat as we see who will advance to Round 2 of this annual event! Come and root on your favorites or find a new favorite you’ve never seen before!
This is a great chance to see some of the county's funniest people at their best. Comedians from all over the area are bringing out their best material and have been practicing for weeks.
Of his experience performing in the first round, Mike Tanzi said, "Last night was a lot of fun I just love getting to perform in front of such a fun crowd and with a bunch of my good friends who all did amazing! I am pretty happy to move on to the next round."
Tickets are going fast for the other two shows in the first round and can be bought here. They are $18 plus fees and the venue has a two-item minimum.
Full disclosure: I am performing on the 18th in this contest. Whether you come to see me, another comedian, or just for the experience, it will be a good time.
