Authorities said that a Long Island woman has lost more than a thousand dollars due to a scam that utilized the app, AnyDesk.

According to Nassau County police, around 4 p.m. on April 7, a woman from Seaford was attempting to watch Amazon Prime on her TV when she received an error message.

The message stated that the Amazon Prime account belonging to the woman was locked and provided the phone number 1-848-246-1786 for her to call.

Upon making the call, she was told that in order to gain access to her Amazon account, she would have to download the AnyDesk application.

As per the police report, the victim was directed to activate the "Quick Pay" function on her Capital One checking account and make several payments to a particular bank account using Zelle.

As soon as the lady had transferred an amount of $1,489, she grew doubtful and purportedly declined to send any additional funds.

According to Nassau County police, the investigation is still in progress.

Nassau County has experienced their second scam within a few days, both of which involved the app AnyDesk. Another incident of this kind was reported to the Nassau police on Thursday, April 6th, resulting in a woman losing $4,000.

Using the app, it is possible for one user to access another individual’s device from a remote location.

NCPD detectives are advising the community to stay vigilant for possible scams and to caution susceptible family and friends about potential deceptions.

Those who possess any knowledge regarding the Apple Support incident are urged to contact Nassau County Crime Stoppers at 1-800-244-TIPS or dial 911.
