Man Arrested for Kidnapping Child in Patchogue Saturday Afternoon

A 38-year-old Patchogue man was arrested Saturday afternoon after he allegedly kidnapped a 4-year-old girl from 

While a woman was with her two children at a Laundromat located at 138 East Main Street in Patchogue, Carlos Corte, 38 of Patchogue, who was unknown to the woman led her 4-year-old daughter away through a back exit around 12:08 p.m.

Her mother reported her missing, and patrol officers responded to the scene where they reviewed surveillance video, and began canvassing the area.  During the search, the mother located her daughter in the Child's Play area of the Patchogue-Medford Library. An officer arrested Corte near the laundromat and took him into custody. 

Following an investigation, Corte, 38, of Patchogue was arrested and charged with Kidnapping 2nd Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and Endangering the Welfare of a Child, and for an outstanding warrant. 

Corte is being held overnight at the Sixth Precinct, and is scheduled to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip on March 29.
