Child Seriously Injured in Dix Hills House Fire Wednesday Night

Suffolk County Police Arson Squad Detectives are investigating a house fire in Dix Hills that happened Wednesday evening, which seriously injured a 9-year-old child, and a 39-year-old Dix Hills Women. 

Second Precinct Officers responded to a 911 call after a Dix Hills Volunteer Firefighter reported driving past a house on Martin Street in Dix Hills. The caller reported seeing Nichole Heller, 39, on the front lawn unconscious, and suffering a medical emergency. at approximately 5:05 p.m.

Upon arrival three officers, and the Good Samaritan, observed smoke coming from the house. Officers, Joshua Palas, Kevin Turner, and Daniel Giustino, along with the volunteer firefighter entered the home, and used fire extinguishers to put out the flames, while officer Danielle Adames rendered first aid to Heller outside. 

While inside, the officers heard a child screaming upstairs. The officers went through heavy smoke, and found 9-year-old Jacob Heller in an upstairs bathroom with severe burns. 

The responding officers, brought Jacob outside, and handed him first responders, who transported him to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition. Nicole Heller was transported to Stony Brook University for treatment following her emergency. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation and is believed to be non-criminal in nature.
