Rocky Point Man Arrested for Fatal Hit and Run Thursday Night
Suffolk County Police arrested a 51-year-old Rocky Point man last night for the fatal hit and run accident that left one man dead, and another injured in Shirley Thursday night.
Following an investigation by the Major Cases Unit Detectives, 51-year-old Jonathan Shaver was arrested Friday, and charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Fatality, and Leaving the Scene of an Accident resulting in Serious Injury. The 2012 Honda Accord he was driving at the time accident was recovered, and impounded.
The two men were changing a flat tire on the William Floyd Parkway in Shirley Thursday night around 6:45 p.m. when they were struck by a 2012 Honda Accord which fled the scene.
The victims of the accident have been identified as Edgar Meija 31, of Mastic Beach, who was pronounced dead at the scene, and his brother Omar Meija, 29, of Mastic Beach. He is currently in critical condition.
Shaver is being held overnight and is scheduled for to be arraigned at the First District Court in Central Islip on January 31.
