One Man Killed, Another Injured when Boat Capsizes in Rough Waters in Fire Island Inlet Saturday Afternoon
Suffolk County Homicide Detectives are investigating the death of a boater Saturday afternoon after a boat he was in capsized in rough waters in the mouth of the Fire Island inlet.
Christopher Sieignano, was operating a boat entering the Fire Island Inlet when his boat capsized in rough water. Sieginano. and his passenger, David Johnson, who were not wearing life jackets were thrown into the water, and the boat sunk.
A passing boater reported the incident via UHF radio and Suffolk County Police Marine Bureau Officers responded, and the United States Coast Guard responded.
Sieignano, 68, of Lindenhurst, was transported to the Robert Moses State Park Basin, by a Good Samaritan and then transported by West Islip Fire Department Rescue Squad to where he was treated and released.
Johnson, 70, of Lindenhurst was transported by Coast Guard to Coast Guard Station-Babylon and then transported by West Islip Fire Rescue Squad to Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip where he was pronounced dead.
