4 killed, at least 15 injured in shooting at teen boy's birthday party in Alabama, officials say
According to ABC News, a shooting occurred at a birthday celebration on Saturday night in Dadeville which resulted in four deaths and around 15 individuals being wounded.
According to Sgt. Jeremy Burkett of the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency, a shooting occurred at approximately 10:30 p.m. during a birthday party; however, the reason for the shooting remains unknown. It is currently unclear whether a potential perpetrator has been apprehended.
During a news conference on Sunday morning, Burkett reported that the incident resulted in the tragic loss of four lives and numerous injuries.
The small city of 3,200 was shaken by the shootings. Chief Jonathan L. Floyd from Dadeville took a moment to compose himself before addressing the media.
Floyd acknowledged that the community has experienced something that should not be endured and requested patience from others. Despite the realization that the process will involve a significant duration, prayers are requested in earnest.
Most of those affected by the shooting are adolescents as the event took place during a birthday celebration for a 16-year-old, according to Pastor Ben Hayes. He added that the incident has had a significant impact on the small town, where incidences of severe crimes are infrequent, given his role as chaplain for both the local high school football team and the Dadeville Police Department.
Hayes stated that the casualty included a remarkable athlete who was a charismatic individual. As a result, Hayes had known several pupils impacted by the tragedy. The town of Dadeville being small means that this incident would impact the entire district, according to Hayes.
According to Raymond C. Porter, the superintendent of Tallapoosa County school system, counseling services will be provided to students at the schools on Monday.
According to WRBL-TV, there was a shooting incident at a dance studio. The news station aired visuals of the crime scene cordoned off with tape around the Mahogany Masterpiece Dance Studio and adjoining structures, as well as an extensive police presence.
Governor Kay Ivey of Alabama expressed her sorrow for the people of Dadeville and her fellow Alabamians on social media this morning. She firmly stated that there is no room for violent crime in their state and that they are keeping a close eye on the situation as more information is revealed by law enforcement.
The White House has informed that President Joe Biden has received information about the shooting and is closely keeping track of the situation. Additionally, the officials have also been connected with local law enforcement to provide their support.
Located in eastern Alabama, Dadeville is approximately 57 miles (92 kilometers) northeast of Montgomery, Alabama.
