Manager Who Stole $50K From Developmentally Disabled Adults At Medford Group Home Sentenced
Medford, NY
The ex-manager of a group home in Long Island will be incarcerated for taking thousands of dollars from adults with developmental disabilities who were under her supervision.
On Thursday, April 6th, Jazzame Paranzino, who resides in Shirley and is 31 years old, received a four-month prison sentence along with five years of probation in Suffolk County Court.
After she pleaded guilty in December 2022 to stealing from residents at the Maryhaven Center of Hope in Medford, she was followed.
The prosecutors claimed that Paranzino was employed as a site manager in a facility that provides assistance to adults with severe developmental disabilities who are unable to take care of themselves or handle their financial matters.
She was given permission to view the bank accounts of residents as a part of her employment, with the aim of making sure they had enough petty cash for visits to nearby establishments.
Paranzino confessed to stealing over $50,000 from the accounts of 11 residents between January 2020 and March 2021, by assuring them that the money would be put towards purchasing necessary items, when she pleaded guilty.
A felony charge of second-degree attempted grand larceny was admitted to by Paranzino on Dec. 21, 2022.
In a statement, Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney expressed that the accused took money from people who had severe disabilities, requiring round-the-clock assistance. These individuals and their relatives had put their faith in the defendant, but she betrayed it by misusing the funds for her own benefit, resulting in a loss of thousands of dollars.
The judge not only sentenced Paranzino to prison but also commanded her to reimburse the victims completely, which adds up to $50,744.
