Exclusive: A restaurant in Hauppauge reports that an envelope containing donations for an individual's funeral has been confiscated by a DoorDash driver.
On Tuesday, it was reported that a Suffolk County restaurant had supposedly had an envelope containing donations for the funeral of a cherished patron stolen.
When hosting a memorial for Michael Bittleman, workers at Patrizia's of Hauppauge claim that a DoorDash delivery driver entered through the front entrance, collected food, and then picked up the envelope next to the order on the counter before leaving.
Last week, there was a car accident that claimed the life of Bittleman from East Northport.
According to the employees, the envelope containing donations for Bittleman's family was taken by the driver who was seen on the surveillance video stopping, turning back, and grabbing the envelope.
Deborah Rozea, a friend of Bittleman, expresses her disbelief that anyone could contemplate such action during such a dreadful period.
According to restaurant staff, over 500 individuals paid their respects at the memorial held for Bittleman, and numerous individuals contributed financially to assist his family in paying for the funeral. The money was allegedly included in the envelope that the DoorDash driver collected.
Bittleman's impact was so significant that his family gifted two of his hats to the restaurant to be displayed as a memento.
Amy Brower, a bartender at the restaurant, stated that the event was held at that location with a large number of people who all contributed because the individual was significant to everyone.
The staff members of Patrizia's claim that they notified the authorities about what they observed on their security footage.
An investigation is being conducted by the Suffolk County police regarding the incident.
News 12 has made contact with DoorDash and is currently awaiting their response.
